OneStar Foundation is coordinating Uvalde relief donations

Bob Wright explains how you can help

By Bob Wright

I’m sure that you, like me, were rocked by the devastating news of last week’s mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde. The staggering loss of young, innocent lives was senseless and horrifying. As a father, I can’t fathom the grief and disbelief that the fathers of the victims are facing.

Now that we’re past the shock of the crime, we can look for ways to help the victims’ families and Uvalde citizens begin the process of healing and moving forward.

I serve as the chair of the OneStar Foundation, a very worthwhile Austin-based nonprofit helping strengthen Texas communities through service and volunteerism. I’m proud to share that Governor Abbott has asked OneStar to be the coordinating fund for donations to the Uvalde community. Since the governor made the request, OneStar worked tirelessly to be ready: The donation page is live.

OneStar is working in conjunction with the Uvalde community and First State Bank there. By operating this donation page, OneStar is providing needed infrastructure to the donation process, such as being able to accept credit card payments and provide receipts for tax deductions. OneStar will also provide guidance on how the funds will be used in the community.

Please be generous and donate. It’s one way we all can help.

I’m proud of the work OneStar does. It is recognized as a statewide voice for the nonprofit sector and a respected partner to foundations, state agencies, and the business community.
